The day is finally here. After dozens of claws to the flesh, hundreds of miles on the road and countless hours in post production the music video for Scott Ryan’s “Vanishing” is now ready to be seen on youtube, vimeo and jdialfilm.com

In case you didn’t already know I’m not a big time filmmaker and Scott Ryan is no rock star…at least not yet. But we thought it would be a good use of our time to make a music video for a track off of Scott’s new EP Tree Man.

After a failed attempt to do a video about an actress and an alternate reality, we started talking cats. Well I guess I did. It’s one of my obsessions. We decided on a documentary-style video about a person stumbling upon a huge community of cats. I began searching for a place that had many of these furry felines and found The Cat House on the Kings. Thanks to the founder Lynea Lattanzio and her generosity I traveled with my actor, Andres Gonzalez Rojas, a fellow filmmaker and filmed on the grounds for a day. Since this was a real place and I was filming animals I tried to keep things simple and not have too many expectations. The thing that made this shoot really special was the experience of seeing something I’ve never seen before. The experience was exciting, different, challenging and unpredictable. I hope through this video I can share a taste of what that experience was like.

One of my favorite things is to edit alongside great music. For this reason I decided to work on getting a couple of music videos under my belt. When my musician friend Scott Ryan’s new EP dropped we talked about doing a music video.  After a month or so of chatting, working on concepts and talking about songs, we agreed to pursue a concept involving a “cat lady” and her obsessive behavior.  But, after weeks of searching for our lady, we found things were just too dark and some emails I got made me uneasy.  That’s when we stumbled upon The Cat House on the Kings, an animal sanctuary that’s 3 hours north of LA. We were really impressed with the vibe this place was putting off and I decided to document the journey to the grounds that’s home to over 700 cats.  The shoot went great and I’m really excited to share it with people.  Things are deep in post-production and the plan is to have the video done in early February.  Stay tuned for more details.

THE LIMPETS dives into the mind of artist Melanie Weaver as she seeks to reconcile her past through a controversial new art project.

This film has been a long time coming and its nice to finally have it all done.  I couldn’t have done this without the help of some great friends who went above and beyond to get this thing done. I’d like to thank musician Chris Schlarb for adding a strong backbone to the film, Savannah Nord for getting the ball rolling and most of all, one of my best friends in the world, Nathaniel Brice Smith for co-Directing this with me and doing way too much polishing on all things technical.
